AmeriCorps Member Openings
Would you like to be part of one Dane County’s largest community partnership to help close the racial academic achievement gap and ensure that all youth realize their full academic potential? The Urban League of Greater Madison and United Way of Dane County are seeking applicants for positions within the Schools of Hope program.
AmeriCorps High School Tutor Coordinators: Help expand a proven academic tutoring program into Madison area high schools. Five full-time AmeriCorps members will be recruited to assist with the recruitment, screening, training, and placement of volunteer tutors as well as to tutor students directly. AmeriCorps High School Tutor Coordinator (50%) and Community Resource Specialist (50%): One full-time AmeriCorps member is being recruited to spend half of their time helping expand the Schools of Hope academic tutoring program into Madison area high schools (as described above) and half of their time providing information about and referrals to community resources (i.e. food, shelter, financial assistance, childcare, elder care) to people who call United Way’s 2-1-1 program. These are one-year positions (July 2009 – June 2010) funded by economic stimulus funds. Members are eligible to receive a living allowance (stipend), health insurance, an award to pay for college or other post-secondary education (upon completing a full year of service) and may also be eligible for a child care subsidy.
